Approach 17. Stairs / Lucas / Opening

The unreachable suspension point

Relying on the Opening movement of Philip Glass’ Glassworks, Approach 17 proposes a simplified take on existential trajectories, alternating between elevations and descents, with a staircase leading nowhere. Temporal chronology is thwarted with plays on the theme of reversibility.

Atop an invisible partition, one character manages to elude the void, playing with the laws of gravity and weightlessness in order to reach a state of freedom, situated between balance and imbalance.

This visual poem centers on a moving, vertiginous procession towards the point of suspension—that precise, short-lived moment, when a body has progressed to its highest possible point and the inevitable fall has yet to commence.

BIO

LUCAS STRUNA

Lucas trained at the ENACR (National School of Circus Arts in Rosny-sous-Bois) and at the CNAC (National Center for Circus Arts in Châlons-en-Champagne). During his training, he experienced a real revelation when he discovered “mallakhamb”, an ancestral Indian practice combining martial arts, gymnastics and yoga. It was then that he took possession of this piece of equipment that is the Indian mast after an immersive stay in India. In a personal and modern approach, Lucas combines his sensitivity for theater, hip hop, acrobatics, dance… Upon his release in 2015, he joined the Yoann Bourgeois company in which he collaborated on several creations. In 2019, he created his first solo, Comment j’ai tempt le ciel with the Full-Full production office. In 2020, he founded the ISI company to produce his shows live.
